Lime flowers increase peripheral circulation, and so are useful in cooling treatment of fevers, particularly where these are associated with the common infectious disorders of childhood or with upper respiratory inflammations such as the common cold.
As a gentle sedative, Lime flowers are useful for insomnia, especially in children. They are particularly indicated for childhood insomnia, for panic and nervous palpitations.
Lime flowers are particularly used for treating high diastolic blood pressure, such as associated with arteriosclerosis. The sedative, antispasmodic and diaphoretic actions may all play a role here.
As it is a cooling remedy, some herbalists use Lime flowers for alleviating hot flushes during the menopause. However, as a diaphoretic, it may worsen the associated sweating if this is particularly excessive.
